Sub threads?
Is there a way we could have subthreads by brand?
i.e.
Printers
HP Lexmark Epson etc...

It would be simpler if people who posted just provided useful data up front, eg;
operating system and service packs
mobo manufacturer and model
psu manufacturer and size
hard drive manufacturer and type
cd/dvd manufacturer and model
northbridge
southbridge
sound on board/card
graphics on board/card
modem
network
You can get a lot of this if you use a program like Everest Home or Aida32
Also, what you have done recently or just before the failure.

That would be great wouldn't it? Now all you have to do is get the posters to a) see how the board works, b) read the screen, c) click the right manufacturer...
I honestly think mods would be moving posts left right and centre. Relying on posters to get the right sub forum and then find out it's actually an OS problem would serve to confuse.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Agreed, but most users don't remember what they had for breakfast let alone all that lot!! How many users do you know have any idea what the southbridge is? And why would the southbridge info be relevant when they want a driver for a printer?
