    samsung syncmaster 940bw (widescreen)

I recently purchased this monitor and I have a few questions

    1. I noticed that when I installed the drivers cd the magic tune program which was included was not compatible with my computer has anyone else who owns one of these had that problem?

    2. In the packaging came a hd dvi cable. I noticed my computer does not have the jack which is needed to plug that cable in. What capabilities could that possibly do for my monitor if I get a compatible jack for my computer?

    3. It could be that I need a new pair of glasses but, the text seems kind of soft and not crisp and clear like it should be. I tried tinkering around with the settings but, nothing I did could help the problem.

Any suggestions or answers on these issues would be of much appreciation.

    Welcome to WinDrivers:

    1 - see: http://www.samsung.com/Products/Moni...tune/index.htm

2 - if you don't have Hi Def chipset/card, then no Hi Def - frankly, I don't see a whole lot of difference between the two during normal everyday stuff, although in some applications there can be a visible difference. . And it isn't the 'jack', it is the video chip capability (whether on a built-in chip or an add-on card).

3 - LCD's can be that way - you will need to experiment with resolution (your native is 1440x900) and font type ansd size).

In order to answer your questions TJS775 we would need to know alot more about your computer... is it branded? If so make and model please? What windows are you running?

If you are running XP you can use a facility called clear type here is an online tool to help you set up clear type.

Hey thanks for the help so far guys I appreciate it. 1440 x 900? Are you serious I dont even have that type of resolution available for selection the highest I can go is 1280 x 768 and that looks horrible. I wonder if there is a compatibility issue between the monitor and my computer.

OK - that is the MAX resolution - try 1280 x 720 then use that site Noo Noo recommended - you will probably have to download an active-x and that's OK it is a windows site.

    Try it.

My system is a intel celeron built by a guy at a local shop here in town. It is nothing too fancy I believe it has a 2.26 gigahertz processor. Has a 75gig harddrive . Not sure about the memory specs. I tried that cleartype program I'll have to see if it improves the text legibility when I increase the resolution.

Here's the thing. With my old crt monitor the resolution looked fine and the text looked crisp and clear. So is their a chance that I may need to upgrade my video card since I upgraded to a lcd widescreen monitor?

It's definitely video info... but not quite enough to be able to give you an exact link.

If is this a laptop here is the packard bell version

If not, here are the various reference drivers if not.... to tie down which one you want, can you post what it says about the motherboard please?
