Taskbar freezes for a while and then recovers

The thread title says it all. Every now & then my taskbar would freeze entirely & the current window I have open would be fine.

Since you do not have the built-in additional security offered by SP2, you would need a GOOD firewall and anti-virus program.

I would suggest you run AdAware and Spybot-Search and destroy and maybe Ewido (free trial) after clearing your Internet Options and using Cleanup.

You might want to do a memory test. Faulty memory can make the task bar hang for a bit and then your system can run fine after the freeze, but can lead to future problems.

Ah, the joys of posting advice for people who request it and then won't listen. Aman, once again, are you running anything like Ad Aware SE, Spybot, Ewido, or up to date antivirus software? The problems with your taskbar and your sound really are typical of malware issues. Whether or not you think it's logical. Heck, earlier today, you didn't even know what malware was. Maybe you should take a look at geoscomp's profile and rethink your response.
