    Motherboard upgrade

    hey,
im upgrading my motherboard to pci-e, but i talked to some guys on the tech chat yesterday saying that i will have to get a new hdd otherwise my hdd will go crazy searching for new drivers for everything of course thats best case scenario worst case and what will probably happen is it wont boot.
Is there any way like i can transfer all of my old files from my old hdd to a new 1?
because i dont know where my copy of xp is.
or will i just have to go buy a new copy of xp?

Yes Roky and the reason we said this, is because when you install a new motherboard the operating system not the hd will not have the nessecary drivers/software to permit the install. See me in the chat and I will explain how you can transfer to a new motherboard and have approx a 99% success rate
As to your XP cd the most important thing is the COA sticker which should be on the case

you can, but windows will not boot (very ulikely it will). if you are changing the motherboard - then it is best to do a completely fresh install of windows anyhow.

If you have lost your CD but still have the License code you might be able to send off to Microsoft for a new disc?

Be sure you boot directly to the windows cd and do a repair install

Its nearly impossible to change out a motherboard in a working windows system and get it back up and running without a repair install

I explained what to do about the windows cd and microsoft

yeah well i called microsoft....10 transfers and about 1 hour of waiting
i finally got ahold of some1 that could help me out
well....they said sincei bought it from a company called Altex ( computer company in texas ) thats they cannot send me a new disc.
They told me to call altex. so i did. all they said was that we give out cd's that have codes on them not just the replacement discs.
the altex guy was more knowing than the microsoft people about there own people were about there own crap
    thats not good
anyways he told me that all i have to do is find someone with just a xp disc then i can use my cd key to make it work
so now my problem is finding a cd
