buying a Hd
Hello I'm thinking about buying a hd. I get to choose between a Maxtor 200GB Maxtor 7200RPM Serial ATA/150 and a WESTERN DIGITAL 200GB SERIAL ATA SATA 200GB HDD 7200RPM 8MB. What is the best brand of hd to buy?

Intel Mod
It's a bit like what's the best make of car to buy. Everyone has different experiences of good and bad drives, good & bad backup service etc. Also any brand can be having a bad patch at some time, then come good again.
I've had a good run with Seagate and WD, and have not had a high opinion of Maxtor (which is now merged with Seagate anyway).

Which one has the longer warranty? Which one is Sata 300? Which one has the bigger cache?
Note that warranty comes before everything else!!
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

I have used a ton of Maxtor's with pretty good reliability but never had good luck with WD but that was 15 years ago. But recently (5 years) I have better luck with WD's then Maxtor's. But personally I prefer Seagate or Hitachi now over both. But they are a bit more expensive which is ok in my opinion.

Good old Seagate. My 40 MB from a 386 still works.
Funny thing back then if it wasn't noisey........
You wondered what was wrong with it.
Seagate offers that 5 year warranty.

I am a die hard Western Digital fan, but lately been trying and liking Hitachi drives as well.
