SB Live 5.1 problems, help please...
After about a year of no problems
it`s really screwing up my games.
They either lock up or don`t even start.
Tried new sound drivers but turned out
was using the newest one.
OS Win98 SE
DirectX 9.0c
Hardware...
Biostar U8668 MB
Intel Celeron 2.0 clocked to 2.3ghz
<turning it back down didn`t help either>
Geforce 6200 vid card using Forceware 81.98 drivers
Via Rhine II ethernet <built in mb>
512 mb DDR
Maxtor 40 gig IDE HD
Creative Misc Device keeps showing up
in Device manager but Winblows can`t install
drivers.
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and
sound card numerous times now.
Can it be fixed or time to reinstall Winblows?
thanks in advance,
Bob

Welcome to Windrivers bladecloud
What is the results of the sound tests on Dxdiag?
What's the system temperature?
Frankly that sblive oem is evil and they do tend to die in bits and pieces. Have you tried uninstalling the bloatware in safemode followed by the drivers and then remove the hard ware from device manager, shut down... pull the card, rebooting to normal mode a couple of times (so windows gets the idea that there is no sound card) and then update the motherboard drivers, then put the live card back in a different pci slot and then reinstall?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
