Sounds like you have still to install the motherboard drivers. Windows will install its own driver for the 1394 (Firewire), and as long as the LAN is enabled in the BIOS setup, if you have installed the recommended drivers from the CD supplied with the motherboard, the LAN adaptor should appear as a device.

If there wasn't a driver CD with the board you've been dudded according to ASUS' specification:
"Support CD
Drivers
ASUS PC Probe - PC Health Monitoring Software
ASUS LiveUpdate Utility
ASUS AI Booster
ASUS Cool 'n' Quiet Utility
NVIDIA nTune Utility
Anti-virus software (OEM version) "
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...82&modelmenu=2
There are 4 variants of the board, is yours just an SLI (ie not SE, Deluxe or Premium)?
I guess it's the plain SLI, as the download site doesn't include a LAN category for it:
http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
When you select the appropriate board, in the "Others" category you'll find the nVidia Chipset Driver pack. This will include the nVidia LAN adaptor drivers. If you have a Deluxe or Premium, the page for those boards also provides the driver for the second Marvell LAN.

The LAN driver is included with the chipset drivers; nVidia Chipset(CK804) driver

I have to wonder when you buy a motherboard and it has no driver cd and no manual.

How do they expect you to know contents are missing without opening the box? I wouldn't deal with them again if they're that un-supportive.
CCT's link is directly to the motherboard drivers for the plain SLI model. If that matches your board, download for your Windows version, install & you should be set to go.

Hmm, there are a few suggestions online that the performance of the nVidia LAN is not as good as the second Marvell that some of the models have, but it shouldn't be affecting it that much.
What's your connection setup (router etc)?
Also maybe your ISP is just having a slowdown?

well whats weird is that i tryed it on my laptop and i get around 70-110 again
so its gotta be something
I have a linksys wireless 54g ( im hooked directly to it with ethernet ) never have had problems before with download speeds.
It's like im trying to re download a game that i had and its like it goes through denials, It goes to 30 and is CONSTANTLY changing from 3kbs to 30 then all of a sudden it just stops. But my internet works fine for browsing
and also
its happened twice
The first time after about 5 min
all of a sudded a blue screen came up and has like an entire page of regualr text explaning what error occured then the system reboots
well after the first time it happened I didnt know what it was i Let it run on windows just lookn at the desktop for a bit seeing if it would happen again waited about 10 or so minutes then i thought it was all working and about 30 min later another downer where that screen came up
it flickers to fast for your eyes to pick it up and read although it gives ya enough time to see it

Did you have all current Windows security updates installed, anti-virus up-to-date and firewall operational (noted you "adjusted" firewall)? Otherwise there could be an infection. Does it still do it if you simply run the system without being on-line (i.e. modem off or LAN disconnected)?
Also, turn off Automatic Restart (right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery Settings and uncheck the option box to Automatically Restart). Next time, it will display a blue screen, post the exact message it gives.
