Power Options lost?
Hello,
Win XP Pro, latest SP's, recently "updated," dual LCD monitors, AMD CPU, ASUS mobo, ATI x800 card....
After two years of flawless operation, remaining "on" 24/7, I recently ran across a problem. I'm suspicious that the Windows Critical updates might have contributed to this.
All video devices have the latest updates and drivers.
The monitors won't go into standby mode anymore. I fiddled with all configs, times and such, but no joy. FWIW, I don't use a screensaver, but tried to enable it, and that won't work anymore either! Before it's suggested, I would not want to use a third party app to do what XP is "supposed" to do, and had done flawlessly.
FWIW, I tried restore to a point before the updates, and no joy there either.
Only issue I've noticed recently was a temporary pa.exe problem that came up while working in an app...but after a reboot, it's there and running.
Something has prevented monitor standby settings. Any ideas? TIA.
Len.

Thanks for the reply, CCT. I should've posted that I'd been into BIOS and none of the settings there were changed. APM has been enabled since the build date, and none of the BIOS settings had been changed, nor is the BIOS itself corrupted.
Also ran four different virus scanners, and each one came up clean. I also wondered if recent XP critical updates may have changed standby/screensaver parameters to not allow power save functions during internet access...which would be a problem if my security software was gathering updates from time to time. So, I shut down anything that could access the internet, to the point of disabling the network cards so there was absolutely no activity on the PC...no luck there, either.
