slimtype combo LSC-24082k
Ive gone through many posts in this forum about this cd rom. I cant seem to find one that matches my problem close enough.
Basically, since the reformat of my laptop (Emachines m5309) i havent been able to use my cd/dvd rom. It shows it in my computer, and i can hear the drive spooling up. No result though, and when i double click on the icon in my computer it says there is nothing in the drive.
No problems in device manager.
strangely enough, it will sometimes load the windows xp cd, but thats it.
Also, i know the drive isnt dead, becuase it will boot cd's outside windows.
any and all help will be apreciated

Welcome to WinDrivers:
Did you load chipset drivers after the reformat and winxp install?
And, as a point of interest, the xp cd could be visible to the bios for booting but NOT be visible to Windows for operation since they are independant. The Windows drivers may be corrupted.
Since that is an install disk, you could try a repair.

Boot into safe mode and remove the cdrom from device manager (if there is more than one, remove them all). Reboot.
support for your Laptop is here
Chipset drivers are not so easy... igp320 northbridge and Ali 1533 southbridge... designed to use XP default drivers.
What burning software do you have? Have you tried uninstalling that and reinstalling?
How is your ASPI layer? about ASPI
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

click on the link about aspi... it will tell you.
After disabling native burning, did you reboot? Any change?

There are none - the CD drivers are built in to XP - NooNoo already checked that your motherboard chipsets DON'T have XP support drivers in addition to those that come with XP and the service packs (they were only necessary for Win98/ME) - thus, follow NooNoo's advice.

so now we need to find out if your aspi layer is good....
download adaptec aspi double click the file it will unpack itself to c:\adaptec. Open the folder and look for aspichk.exe and double click it. It will check your aspi layer. If it reports components missing then double click the install.bat file in the adaptec folder. When that's done reboot. Any change?
