Blue screen amd sudden shutdown
Hello
Actually this is my friends computer problem:
He has using 512 mg RAM , Celeron 2.26 GHz . All thing was going well when he downloaded some program and then....there comes the blue screen and shuts down automatically.
I dont even get to look at what is written in that blue screen.
Then I scanned with antivirus and antispyware but no use... it happens at irratic timing. I Then reinstall the whole HD with fresh Window xp ver 5.1.2600 and was going well for 2 weeks and again...NOW.... samething is happening..
Please advise what to do..
thanks

What spyware and anti-virus are you running?
He downloaded 'some program' is a good start.
Remove and unplug all unnecessary items for booting to windows ,and boot with only the bare minimum if all goes well, reconnect,or add hardware until you find the culprit.
This would also include USB items.

Ultranet, did your firend download this program again??
One thing to do, right click my computer - properties - advanced tab - startup and recovery button and uncheck automatically restart. The next time it BSODS it will stay there and you can write the WHOLE message down.
The numbers are important, so please be accurate.
You should also check the event viewer (control panel - administrative tools - event viewer) particularly in system and applications - any Red or Yellow warnings in there? If so, double click them and post the event id, the source and the description.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

. . .
Good question. Since you reinstalled Windows, it seems like this would not be a software issue, but it still could be if your friend did not learn a lesson the first time and is still making the same mistakes over and over. Your friend needs to be honest with you and admit exactly what he/she is doing. If you believe they are not downloading junk, start checking the hardware by removing anything not absolutely necessary at Street1 suggested.
