Resolved [RESOLVED] How to increase memory allocated to Intel® GMA 950?

    Hello there.

I have a Intel® GMA 950. On the Intel website (http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/) I read it can support up to 224 MB video memory. When I go in my BIOS I see it shows only 8 MB for video memory. I am pretty sure it uses shared memory. Does anyone know how I can increase the memory allocated to the GMA?... If at all possible...

    Thanks for all your help.

There are smarter posters and more prolific here, but after reading your question and the 'blah' advert from Intel, I see this as a situation where the 'shared memory' is basically able to take advantage of 224 MB's IF you have them to spare.

So, if running XP Pro and it would LOVE 512 MB's basic and Norton + various other memory hogs (I use and really like Norton BTW) which would take another256 MB basic possibly, you have installed onboard 1024 MB of RAM or more, your video is gonna ROCK!

    Or, I think anyway.

Yes, shared video memory is allocated dynamically as required for the video application. The setting in the BIOS will control the minimum setting used for the 2D frame buffer, typical options may be 1M and 8M.

So the system runs itself, grabs more memory (up to 224M) as it's required then releases it again when no longer required, you have no control over this process.
