Creative Audio(ES1371,ES1373)(WDM) PROBLEMS, NO SOUND!!
xxx
Hello all! I have one of these old soundblaster cards (Creative Audio(ES1371,ES1373)(WDM) and have just installed it as a second card so I can begin using some dj mixing software. I need an additional output to use my headphones as a monitor. I am having problems getting any sound out of it and cannot find the correct drivers. So here are my specs. Can someone please tell me which one I should install to get this thing working. PS, it did work in my old pc.
Operating System: Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Board: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-7177 REV:1.0
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 11/10/2005
3.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
1024 Megabytes Installed Memory
My other card is a Realtec ac97, built into the board. there are no conflicting devices, the sounblaster card is listed as functioning in device manager, just no sound. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Welcome to Windrivers reggiemassive
Start, control panel - sounds and audio devices (switch to classic view on left first) Click on the audio tab... which sound card is showing as the default device? Change it to the Creative card... now do you have sound?
Swap the headphones for powered speakers... this card does not power speakers - so it is likely it won't power headphones either. A work around might be to get powered speakers with a headphone socket.

Hi NooNoo,
I have already tried making the sb card the default device, and then plugged it in to my speakers that have an external power supply. The only sound I can hear is if I turn the volume up ALL the way, and then it is only a very faint sound. I have the correct creative driver installed but cannot figure out why this will not work, even after reading your extensive replies to the other posts on this subject. Any ideas as to why this driver will not work, should I try to find another one more suited to my motherboard? Oh, and the card does also have a headphones output, so I just assumed it should power them without any problems
Thanks for your help

I edited your post to remove text that may identify your computer...
Can you try turning off the onboard audio for the moment and just work with the pci card?
I have to say, you can get a brand new Cmedia based card for a few quid - how much time do you want to devote to a card that is not entirely xp compatible?
Faint sound is usually lack of powered speakers or speakers plugged into the line out instead of the speaker out jack or just plain faulty.
Check in your foxconn manual about pci interrupts and what shares with what... doing the pci slot shuffle may help matters.

thanks NooNoo, that was careless of me! I've tried the shuffle but still no sound. I'm going to take your advice and ditch the old card. Time to upgrade to a card that is more suited to my needs.
Cheers,
