UMAX S6E & XP
I like the scanner and don't want to trash it. It uses a Domex 3191 SCSI card. It worked with W2K but doesn't with XP.
I've downloaded a ton of drivers from driverguide, and have so far managed to have the system recognize the SCSI card, gotten the BSOD twice but can't get vistascan to find the scanner.
Any thoughts (other than going to dual boot with XP and Win98)??
Thanks

Welcome to Windrivers Transit
What happens when you load the 2k drivers?

W2k recognized the SCSI card. I downloaded the vistascan software and it installed fine, the scanner worked fine. With XP when I load the same drivers and attempt the scanner test, I get the message that the scanner isn't found, however device manager tells me that the SCSI card is functioning properly.
I've basically been trying to follow the instructions at driverguide.com/boards/scanners8/810.html.

Does an unknown device appear in device manager? Did you run the update? (last two paragraphs on the page you linked)

Ran the update, and the device manager shows the DMX 3191 controller, but with the ! mark and the note Code 10 Device can not start. May look for an Adaptec 2902 card and try that. Thanks for the help so far. Will post the results.

Installed the Adaptec card. XP found the drivers. Installed the Umax drivers. Turns out that MS Digital Imaging 10 Pro also will scan without using the UMAX drivers. Go figure. Anyhow, we're back in business.
