Hehe a couple from me.
1- powersupply explodes in mid use... computer never woke up after that.
2- Threaten it with a blunt object when frustrated.
3- Windows ME....
Anyways there just a gastronomical amount of reasons a computer can shutdown. Though mainly its power outages and hardware. Anyways if your having an actual problem with your computer randomly shutting down it sounds like a virus. But anyways give the fine people of windrivers a more detailed description and im sure they can help you with any problems you are having

More then likely the power supply. Try another and see if it stops.

hmmm let's see reasons a computer shuts down (and refuses to start again)
Snake in the power supply
Power cord fuse gone
Power strip not working
Virus
Hard drive failure (compaq machine shut the machine down because it detected a short in the hard drive - extracted the hard drive put in a usb carrier and it went up in smoke.)
Ram failure
CPU failure
Bios failure
Static discharge into components
Lightening strike
Motherboard capacitor failure
Motherboard traces scratched
PCI card failure
Optical drive failure
Floppy cable/IDE cable failure
Floppy drive failure
The first thing to find out is whether the fan in the power supply does the roundy roundy thing. If it doesn't, start with the powersupply. If it does, it still could be the powersupply or any component in the computer.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

I would say it was intimidated by Chuck Norris or it might be a heat issue... Check the HSF and be sure it is properly seated and wicking away the heat.

1. Remove power cord from back of PC
2. Put left index finger where power cord used to go
3. Put right index finger on power on button
Anything between these two fingers may be the cause for a shutdown. Including the software inside the hard drive. I get questions like this all the time from people who are too cheap to pay for diagnostics, or bought their computer at Nebraska Furniture Mart, and don't want to wait on hold for "warranty support" from the manufacturer.

because its crap?
When I've had these issues its normally power supply/heat related.
Failure is not an option -- its a "feature" of Windows.

NooNoo's list is good for a computer that shuts down and doesn't restart by itself immediately..if it does restart right away and it is XP, there are some other possibilities..we'd have to know more about the behavior of your particular computer, and what operating system is on it to answer more fully.
