[RESOLVED] Site forgot the password to sign into windows
I have a site that changed the passwords on both admin accounts. We normally keep the admin password blank, and we create a svc account that we set the password for. Someone changed both of the password now I can't get into the system. The OS is win2000 Pro. Is there a way through the cmd prompt to reset the passwords?

NEVER have blank admin passwords... that is the worst security blunder ever.
Repair install would work.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Yeah I know....I didn't set up this site......I always use passwords just so something like this don't happen. The only problem is that the user that they need to be on is a admin account, they can wipe out any passwords in the system and reset them.
Thats what I was thinking...I just wanted a second opinion. I didn't want to go through that if it would not solve the issue.

I guess I could set them up to not be able to change the password, but if you have admin rights can't you uncheck that bit to change it?

The software that they using, or the reason they have this machine is to run POS software. That software needs admin privileges to run properly. Anyways I tried running win2000 repair that didn't work. I didn't have an ERD so I tried to used the recovery console. As soon as I did that, it went to asking for a password. I end up using a program called Active password changer v.3.0.
It worked slick.
