    Angry Frustration

I have a pc to use for a test machine. System is Intel P4 1.7ghz 256 MB RAM, 40GB WD drive. My problem is the system was infected by the person I received it from with virus and spyware. I also found the PS to be bad and replaced. I formatted the HDD and tried to install XP Pro. While the files were being copied error comes up stating certain dll files could not be copied and check your cd or hardware. I have tried (3) different pieces of known good DVD Cdroms. Found memory was bad and replaced with known good memory. Have tried 2 other known good hard drives to no avail. I am at a loss and ready to throw the thing out the door.

    Any ideas?????

Have you tried a different winxp cd? Odd enough I have seen where a cd wouldn't work in one machine but does work in another and you take the cd from that machine and it works fine in the one your having trouble with.

    Adding to Kodiaks response.

You can also sometimes copy the disk, and the copy will install
    where the original would not.

Nothing illegal about a copy of your own disk.

Yup, tried 3 different disks including my action pak disk. The wierd part is I even tried to install Win2k from 2 different discs with the same results. Still frustrated.

    Excuse me: I hiccupped!

If you tried several HD's and ALL failed then the culprit is POSSIBLY a bios virus or, failing that, a bad bios chip.

Hardware hooked up is HDD, video, keyboard, mouse, 128MB Ram. I begining to think it may be the processor since the PS went bad. Will post the Motherboard info in a little while.

Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Sorry it took so long to get back. Had to install 14 new PC's in three different locations. I changed the IDE Cable NooNoo and that seems to have done the trick. Thank you. I want to see if I can get Vista to install on this PC since it is an older PC.

Add more RAM if you're going to install Vista.

Oh yea, I plan on doing that. I am going to run the advisor first to make sure all the hardware will work.
