    Filenames on cd not updating

Hi guys. Really weird problem happened to me last night, seems familiar though and I think that there's probably a really simple answer for me out there

Yesterday I zipped (or rather, rar-red) up my archive of emails to take home with me, had run out of dvds so divided it up into several cd sized rar files.

The rar files are named archive.part1.rar, archive.part2.rar and so on.

When I pop them in my pc at home, the first one is all good, reads fine, start extracting, then it asks for the second cd. I put it in, and it has an error - the next part not found.

So i explore and it the one that should be cd2 is reading "archive.part1.rar", and so is every other disk

BUT, if i reboot, it will then update it with the correct one - ie. part2 or part3.

So I'm guessing the computer is reading the cd, finding a file of the exact same size etc, and assuming its the same cd.

Wha? Why? I guess I could reboot each time and copy each file over, but I'm also curious as to why this would happen.

    Thanks guys.

In the Device Manager, if the "Removable Drive" option in your CD/DVD drive properties has got un-checked, that could do it. Windows doesn't look for a media change flag.

I've seen that before as well.... the drive isn't updating... it loads the fat table and doesn't update.... havent' seen it on a cd though.... use to be a problem with floppies.... whenever I ran into that though the only sollution was to change the drive.... another option... copy all the files to a directory on your computer then extract them....
