Turn off Windows Firewall?
Hi guys,
I am trying to turn off windows firewall in win xp sp2. Also, as it is turned off, I need the red notify icon and balloon text tunned off after login. Here is what I have so far:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dowsFirewall
\DomainProfile \EnableFirewall=0 (DWORD data type)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dowsFirewall
\StandardProfile \EnableFirewall=0 (DWORD data type)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\SharedAccess\
Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile
0 = off
1 = on
Ballon:
This is because at this time, SVCHOST.EXE, after this change in Registry, will load another application named “wscntfy.exe” belonging to XP SP2, in the system root %system32%. And wscntfy.exe notifies users by this message!!!
Can anyone add to this who has had some experience with this?

just go to control panel, security center, and click on the left on change the way security center alerts me, and set it to not bother to tell you about the firewall.
as far as turning off the firewall, just right click on properties for your network connection, and go to the advanced tab and turn it off

This is true as much as it goes to "standalone" computer
If the computer is connected to Domain - there is high possibility that Group-Policy is preventing the user from changing the firewall settings
