Website email protection
Couldn't quite find the right heading..
Anyway, am I right in thinking that if an email address is on a website, it can be trawled automatically by computers, in order to send spam email?
And would something like separating the email address and taking out the link, stop that activity in the future?
It's not my website, but someone I visited today.

An image of the email address with a mailto: link on it prevents automatic harvesting when it is a simpe mailto: text link. Not to say they can't just automatically harvest the address directly out of the code though.

Thanks Emr...
I'm not a tech, by the way, just a retired one. So didn't quite follow that.
If for example, if someone put this on a website, putting spaces in, would it stop the automatic spammers -
fredsmith @ blueyonder.co.uk
So that it's not a proper link.
Or something like - fredsmith at blueyonder.co.uk ?
Thanks.
