2003 & Remote Desktop
Hi folks,
I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure if this has ever been brought up, so appologise if this is repetative!
I have windows server 2003 sat in a corner of my house, connected up to a set of speakers. Server has all my music & video files on it.
There is no monitor or keyboard etc, & everything is accessed by shared folders or remote desktop.
I can watch films etc on laptops around the house no problem, but what I would like to do, is access server by "rd" and play an audio file from server itself, not through a client.
But I get an error message about my sound card.
Am I right in thinking that this cannot be done???
If I plug in a keyboard etc sound works fine.
Any help gratefully received!

Sounds like the sound card isnt installed correctly, but using rd it should be easy to do if the hardware is working correctly

Sorted!
Hi guys.
I have managed to sort the issue!
Remote desktop disables the sound card, and there is little you can do, other than going through the comand line.
The command "mstsc.exe /console" will log onto the server through remote desktop, and if you run an audio file that's stored on server, it will play absolutely fine!

You s/b able to specify in your RD client to "bring the sound to this computer", its on the local resources tab.
Failure is not an option -- its a "feature" of Windows.
Mama never told me geekhood was gonna be like this....

Hiya geekgirl!
i did try that, but it didn't work! r/d automatically disables soundcard, but if u use mstsc /console from the un / command line it will work!

Interesting, I use RD w/ sound all the time from an xp box. Oh well, at least you have a work around!
