    Windows Activation

    Hi all,

I just installed a Windows XP Media Edision in a re-formatted 160GB WD SATA hard drive. I also activated the Windows installation. The drive has been acting up. Sometimes it get stuck during booting. Sometimes it won't boot and I would get a disk boot error from the post. Drive getting bad I guess (less than a year ole..sigh..). I want get another hard drive and then send the old one in for warranty replacement. However, being that the product code is already activated, will I have problem installing Windows fresh in the new hard drive? It might ask for the code and see that it is already activated on a different hard drive.

    Thanks for the help.

It's not a problem, there are no limits to the amount of times you can activate. Just changing the hard drive will not cause any problems at all.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

If you disconnect the 'old' drive then install the 'new' drive and install Windows, the new drive becomes 'C' the OS drive.

Shutdown amd replace the old drive, boot to bios, make it so the 'old' drive can't be booted, carry on loading the OS, then transfer all your vitals off the 'old' drive'.

    I think.

ps: I once had to call MS$ to 'reactivate' my install capabilities because had installed so many times (I was learning about Raid, AHCI and IDE installations so I installed a lot). They had no problem allowing it.
