    Hardware Disabled?

Ok, so I got my computer fixed and when I got it back there was no sound.
I noticed that both the onboard sound and the sound card were enabled. I knew this because I ran direct x and is said sound 1 and sound 2.
I unistalled the Realtek audio from the device manager and I think i've disabled the onboard sound on the BIOS. Under direct x it now just has sound listed, rather than 1 and 2.
That didn't work so I uninstalled the sound card in safe mode following instructions at step 8 here.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc [...] e=bph07154 and I renistalled them.
Interestingly the hardware that gets installed after is SB Audigy rather than Soundblaster Audigy (which was listed under the device manager before.)
I go to Creative System Information, and under all of them under 'sound, video and game controllers' it says harware disabled!
Please help, I'm stuck for ideas!

Well interestingly enough I've had soundblaster cards do odd things like that to me. Generally that is an indication the card is damaged but still operable. The only way I've found to get around this is getting winrar installed. Once you install winrar find the installer for your drivers and right click on the file. Tell it to OPEN WITH WINRAR. Then decompress the files into a folder on your desktop (name it something like SB Drivers). After this go to control panel and click add hardware. Once it detects your sound card tell it you want to select drivers from a list or specific location. Uncheck search removeable media and check the box for Include this location in the search. Then click browse find your folder on the desktop and go from there. This should work around the identifiers misinterpreting the card. It's been my general fix for SoundBlaster products that act flaky. Isn't 100% fool proof but it works a majority of the time. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Niclo Itse. I will try that.
I have also just noticed under 'other devices' in the device manger the 'multimedia audio controller' drivers are not installed. I have tried searching for the drivers with DriverGuide but I had no luck. Is this the cause of the problem before I waste any more time searching for the drivers?
Also, I think it is worth mentioning when I turn my speaker volume up I do hear a low crackling noise.

Since you have the onboard sound turned off, follow this:

    http://www.soundblaster.com/resource...id=53881&cat=2

When you shut-down, pull the power plug, push the start button to discharge the caps, open the case, discharge your personal static on the case screws if not using a wrist-band, pull the card.

Keeping your hand out of the guts, put the plug in, reboot, make sure ALL the SB struff is gone from Add/Remove and Devive manager and the use regedit and do a search for SB and Sound Blaster and SoundBlaster and delete the remains.

    Reboot.

Download the RIGHT drivers to a folder on the Desktop.

If you don't know what they are, say so!

Shut-down, pull the power plug, push the start button to discharge the caps, open the case, discharge your personal static on the case screws if not using a wrist-band, re-install the card.

When plug and play finds the device, direct it to the Desktop folder.

I hope I got all that right.
