anyways back on topic.
If you don't know how to get the information ( which is what I think your asking...not sure tell me if im wrong ) Go download a program called Everest
Or
You can simply go to device manager and tell us what your running.
Everest is free, just do a search for it on google.com

Get your drivers here, toester.
I'd suggest installing all the offered drivers to get the best results, the 4-in-1 pack should always be installed first so Windows fully understands the motherboard support chipset features. Download the XP version of the USB 2.0 Host Controller drivers offered.

Did the drivers seem to install correctly?
Do all the entries in the Sound section of Device Manager show normally, or do any have a yellow ! adjacent to them, or other error?
Do your sound controls, eg volume panel or control applet on the taskbar, operate normally and show volume (both Master and Sub-sections) advanced and no mute functions checked?
In the Sounds and Audio Devices section of Control Panel, Audio Tab, is the correct Sound playback device selected?
Have you previously tried to install other sound drivers unsuccessfully? If so have they been fully removed before trying others (including these)? If you've installed multiple drivers, you may need to start Windows in Safe Mode (tap F8 during boot-up), in Device Manager remove all instances of audio devices, re-boot and install the ECS sound drivers again.
Of course, just to be sure, you've checked to be certain your speakers haven't co-incidentally suffered a fault...

Toester, your somewhat laconic replies do not help us to help you.
Please answer each of Platypus' questions, since we don't know whether you actually installed the drivers after downloading them.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
