Network redundancy question
General question...
Running a Netgear GS724T smart switch that currently has one fiber connection from the hosting ISP to one of the SFP ports. If I install an additional fiber GBIC in the ther SFP port and trunk the two ports (this switch supports trunking), will this create redundancy if one of the fiber uplinks would fail?
Or do I need a higher-end switch with additional features to enable redundancy like that?
My vote is yes, I would get redundancy, but I'm also being told that the switch would need to support Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol. Others have said it needs Spanning Tree support.
Appealing to the experts out there, as this is a little beyond my network expertise.

This is touch and go for me, cause i'm a little out of date when it comes to corporate networking.
My understanding is that if your router support any of the networking interface protocols (IGRP, RIP, OSPF, Etc) then the router should pick up that one path is dead and route the traffic to the new path.
The only real consideration i would give would be to get that second fiber from a different ISP. It's great if one trunk goes down, but if your ISP is going down, Tough luck. With a second ISP, you'll have much better redundancies in place.
