Well since I never got a MSN message after I got home I guess you all got it sorted out Curious though. You sounded pretty sure that the BIOS update wouldn't let it see the hard drive size OMG. Did you read this from their data sheets? Just wondering because I have gotten the BIOS updates before just to let them see a new size and so on. It's not common I admit but I recall several times a while back doing a BIOS update to allow the viewing of a larger hard drive.

Ah I feel silly I was so focused on the hardware I forgot about that information for WinXP. Well I'm glad I got you around to cover my mistakes hehe.

guys i thank you all for helping me:
i updated bios, but i get the same error: i created a new partition with the unallocated space, but after the format is ok (the program tells me the partition is integer) and after a reboot, when i click on E: (the new drive= partition) i get: ACCESS DENIED

    bios update didnt fix this!!

could it be because i use CABLE SELECT jumper and not masteR? (drive is master)

    OK sanity check

You have a second partition on this drive
What type of partition is it? (see disk management to get the details)
Is it extended or Primary partition?
If extended, you must have created a logical drive.

If you made it primary, you need to make it extended.

    Is this home or Pro?

Do you get accessed denied if you login in safe mode as Administrator?

OK, turn off simple file sharing - my computer > tools > folder options > view tab> scroll right to the bottom and uncheck simple file sharing.

Now you right click the drive, select properties, now select the security tab and see which users have full control - Administrator should have by default, the others may differ.

It shouldn't be! Did you choose ntfs or fat32?

In safe mode, uninstall the drive and reinstall it
In normal mode, load the chipset drivers.
    Is this IDE or SATA?
