Hello, XP! These days I'm very firmly in the NOD32 camp. It uses few resources in terms of memory and disk space, has virtually no impact on performance, and it boasts an excellent track record.

Personally, I've found PC-cillin to be fairly buggy. McAfee is a big drag on system performance, suffers from just about the most awkward and annoying update system ever, and has had the most embarrassing AV moment in recent memory when one of its updates caused many legitimate programs and system files to be incorrectly identified as malware.

Avast! is very good and the basic version is free for home use. Norton 2007 provides very good protection and isn't a huge resource hog if you stick with the basic AV software and avoid the Norton 360 package.

I have the following (free) regimen coupled with a router (not so free):

    AVG AV, AS and ARK.

    Spybot S&D.

    AdAware.

    Windows Defender.

    CCleaner.

    HijackThis.

I do a LOT of surfing, and do not get infected.

End of story (Neverending as it may be)

You can update, you register and get a key for 60 days.

The basic you will have to register as well.

    Did you try updating pc-cillin?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

If memory serves, unless you reply to the automatic email as required (something about putting the problem between two lines) you won't get a personal answer.

I would uninstall pc cillin and spybot if you have it, reboot then reinstall pc cillin, do the updates then reboot, then try to scan. The only time I have seen pc cillin do this is when spybot immunise feature and pc cillin tangle or you have a bug preventing pc cillin from running.

Deleted pc cillin Purchased AVG 7.5 Found small trojan exe and hacktool exe,
My computer was crawling, you could actually count the seconds from desk
top to My Documents. Ewido is also in AVG. now it is back to click you are there Avast did not find trojanexe. Maybe not enough updates Or It is not designed to catch Trojans. Also with avg I have 2 year license

AVast catches a fair few trojans, but there are thousands upon thousands out there...
But you are a happy bunny now, so it matters not.
