    Welcome to Windrivers johnnyrotten

Kind of depends how the lan is set up... a few more details would be good.
What are the client PCs and what OS are they running.
How are they connected to the LAN
    Is 2k3 running active directory?
Have you set up DNS and DHCP properly?
Have you got more than one DHCP server on the network?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Second what Noo said, but put DNS/DHCP first on your list. Client PCs should use DNS inside the domain only, the DNS server inside the domain should use forwarding or root hints to resolve addresses outside the domain. If you have an ISP DNS or some other DNS server other than your domain DNS server, you'll have these sorts of problems.

Any group policies running, those can slow things down signifigantly as well.
Failure is not an option -- its a "feature" of Windows.

Mama never told me geekhood was gonna be like this....
