Dvd Rom Drivers
Here my problem, my nieghbors got a dell inspiron, it came with VISTA (Crap) so we installed xp instead, now his dvd rom wont play cd or dvds it say its working properly but its not. i think it might need xp drivers. any solutions? the drive is a HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDRH20N- 0d04.

DVD and CD drives use the same drivers as the hard drives. So did you install the chipset drivers for the Dell?
What DVD playing software are you using?
By cds do you mean music cds?
Does it read data cds or dvds?
Can you right click and explore and see the file names on any disk you put in it?

Well it certainly wont play dvd's unless you install some software like windvd or powerdvd.
If you need to use the burning function that also requires some software
like Nero or imgburn or somesuch
