    XP USB Data Invalid Message...HELP!!!!!!

    Hey folks,

I'm having trouble with my usb devices.
I have an Iomega portoble HD which works fine.
I plugged it in yesterday and windows detects new hardware.
Then I get an error message saying the device couldn't be installed. Data Invalid.
I also just got a brand new USB audio/midi interface and am getting the exact same problem.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated as I have almost no hair left due to utter frustration

    Thanks in advance

Make and model of computer please.

Did you buy it new or second-hand, and if the latter, from where?

    Dell Dimension 3100

Bought it second hand from a friend.
Still has original XP on as received from Dell.

So ask him for it - the xp cd belongs to the dell - the licence for it is attached to the case.
