    Thank you everyone for the very informative and helpful replies and if I do decide to buy a new computer I will go for Vista and I will buy the highest spec I can afford but definitely lots of memory!

    And remember that Virtual PC 2007 and the like can emulate an XP box in Vista, therefore virtually no loss of functionality.
