The truly amazing thing about this technology is that it appears to have leapfrogged the seemingly easier intermediate step of developing a system to control the gamer's brain. Or did it?

Non-invasive medically has always meant no cutting!
That doesn't mean they can't make exvasive use to modify human behaviour.
