    Soundmax Trouble

I have been having the seemingly common "Driver not found!..." error when trying to install SoundMAX. It was all running fine until I decided to update some drivers and accidently uninstalled it.
I've been through a maze of trying to recover my audio (which I have) by hunting for the SIS 7012 driver.
The audio is now working, except only on the rear speakers. I have a 5.1 surround and have run out of ideas.

The best part as this isn't even my computer and I desperately need to recover SoundMAX.

Can some one please help me?
Here are my specs but I still feel like a noob...

    Computer:
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional
OS Service Pack Service Pack 2
    DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)

    Motherboard:
    CPU Type AMD Sempron, 1800 MHz (9 x 200) 3000+
    Motherboard Name Unknown
Motherboard Chipset SiS 761, AMD Hammer
System Memory 1536 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
    BIOS Type AMI (02/27/07)
    Communication Port Communications Port (COM1)
Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1)

    Multimedia:
Audio Adapter SiS 7012 Audio Device

I also tried to download your driver and it kept going somewhere else. SO you go into a LOOP. Very Sorry to lead you astray. I will search more later on today. Hopefully someone will find it for you sooner.

    Resolved

Thanks xpuser, I actually had downloaded the correct driver (I got it from the SiS website) and my sound does work (as I stated in my original post ...however only the rear speakers work.
I have a logitec 5.1 and the fronts control the volume. All I originally wanted was to have SoundMax provide equal volume to all speakers, not just the fronts. Kinda ironic... And now I'm without SoundMax or front volume...

So in device manager I see....

    Audio Codecs
    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Legacy Video Capture Devices
    Media Control Devices
    SiS 7012 Audio Driver <<<<
    USB Audio Device
    Video Codecs

    This okay, oh emm gee?

    Motherboard:
    CPU Type AMD Sempron, 1800 MHz (9 x 200) 3000+

    DIMM2 [ TRIAL VERSION ]
    BIOS Type AMI (02/27/07)

Did that: checked the advanced audio properties, played around with that a bit and its set on 5.1 surround.

I just don't understand why now the sound system is reversed and why the SoundMax is doing the infinite driver loop.

OH, When running the soundmax install, it asks to overwrite existing files...How do I completely uninstall Soundmax to do a fresh install (If that would help at all?)

Urghhh! Its not there But for some reason it continues to show up in the notification area at each start up explaining that the control panel cannot be used. (I see a red line through the icon)

I've tried installing the Realtek AC97 but upon installing it its brought about its own share of problems. I've been trapped in a loop of failed restarts, having to use the last known good config. I tried installing it to see if Soundmax would install afterward, but to no avail grrrrrr! So I keep having to revert to the SiS 7012 device.

What am I doing wrong here? Before I going through all this and reinstalling the SIS 7012 driver, I did see Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver. I uninstalled that one believing it was clashing with the SIS 7012. The error noted with the microsoft driver was "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"

Was I making a mistake by uninstalling it?
