Thumbs up no display after BIOS update

    Hi,
    I have HP-compaq SR2002X desktop and A8m2n-la Mobo.
In order to update the BIOS I downloaded the file on the following page
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareD ownloadIndex?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&softwareitem=pv-56 155-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
and run the software. After installation it asked for rebooting and after pressing Yes and rebooting there is no display in monitor at all.
I am getting usual sounds from PC when machine starts and it seems Windows XP is getting loaded as well as I get to hear the Windows Sounds when XP auto log-in the user.
I do not know how to solve this issue at home ? I contacted HP but they ask me to take it to the Service center which sure will cost me.
Could there be any other solution ? I do not see BIOS as well.

In addition I want to ask,
Can I put a pci video/display card in PC to get display working ?
what would I have to do in that case so that external PCI display card work ?

    Also

I have not tried another monitor as I do not have one extra.
Surprising is that, when a pc is started we get a sound from monitor exactly at the time when the display appears on monitor for very first time. I am able to hear that sound as if display appeared on monitor but actually nothing appears on monitor. Also Can not see the monitor panel do not show anything. when I plug out the monitor cable from machine then only monitor shows no video cable or similiar but otherwise monitor menu does not work at all (after pressing on monitor buttons). I guess monitor menu should work even though the display is not coming on monitor(powered on, amber/orange LED )

    Thanks Sad

    Welcome to Windrivers unpengan78

Does the computer have two monitor ports? It sounds like from what your saying that the port your monitor is plugged into, isn't the port that the computer is using.

You could try resetting the bios. There is usually a jumper near the battery on the motherboard to accomplish this.

Yes you could put a pci video card in as well.... whether it would work depends on a couple of things...
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

The computer has only 1 port for monitor and monitor is connected to the only port. The nvidia graphics card is integrated on the board.

Also I tried CLEARING BIOS (Thanks for the link) but it does not bring any display on monitor

    Any suggestion ?

    Thanks again

So that leaves you with a few possibilities

The bios update corrupted the onboard video somehow.
The monitor coincidentally decided to quit working
The cable between monitor and video port is not on properly

So you need to test the monitor, do you have a friend who has a computer you can take your monitor to and plug it in?
If that proves to be OK, you are then looking at adding a video card. According to the link you can add a PCI-Express video card or a PCI card, but NOT an AGP card.

Yes it looks like some corruption, I don't know what this update was supposed to be doing but it did not belong to my desktop model for sure.

I have a laptop I will try to connect monitor in to it and see monitor has some life.

Rest remains the option of getting a PCI VGA card. once I put VGA crd in slot and connect monitor to it , will the display automatically switched to PCI card or it still remains directed to onboard card ? (i.e something disable/enable in BIOS for PCI or onboard card for video)

I wonder if I could get the original flash somewhere and I try it blindly

    Thanks a lot

HP/compaqs with onboard video usually disable the onboard video when another video card is detected.

Where did you get that bios update? checking the downloads here for your machine, there is no bios update for this model. Did you take a risk with another model's bios update?

I was curious to see if there is any update for my motherboard unknown of the thing that I should not have searched using mobo name. I searched a8m2n-la on HP site and I found update and I went ahead and the installer did not complain either.

but I did not look into desktop specific drivers.

searching for motherboard updates fetched me following page
    http://h10061.www1.hp.com/ccsearch/s...54078&search=0

So I went ahead with that download and installed.

Surprising is that there is no desktop name specified on the page : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...s&lc=en&dlc=en

It looked like this a general update for all machines using a8m2n-la MOBOs so I went ahead and...

HP offer some advice re lack of display (first following url). I repeated Noo Noo's url and then the driver page - no Bios update is shown.

edit: some further looking finds that the/some Media centre versions used that bios update - different graphics on them.

Thanks all for posting your views, I bought a PCIe graphics card and I am getting all display. Funny thing is when I changed monitor cable to integrated card then I still do not see BIOS but I can see everythng when windows XP is booted.

That's because the bios is defaulting to the PCIe card first... windows knows about both, the bios will only output to one at a time.
