    First PC Shooter Game

I'm looking for forward to play a PC Shooter for the First Time since my 360 is in the shop. But I don't know if my PC is up to it I don't want deep graphic like the 360 I just want a good speed without slow downs. I was looking at these 3 games:

    1. Soldier of Fortune Payback
    2. Crysis
    3. Vegas 2

I Hope this is detailed enough:

I wouldn't waste my time with that system

That computer doesn't really meet today's demanding hardware requirements for most first person shooter games, unless you’re playing Wolfenstein 3D or Blake Stone 3D. If I am not mistaken those computers ship with a GeForce 7300 LE which is good for nothing with the only exception of being able to play Windows Solitaire and Minesweeper at fairly decent clip. Then again I wouldn't install Microsoft Vista on a PC with only 2GB of RAM. My recommendation would be selling that computer for someone who needs a home office PC and putting your money towards an enthusiast gaming PC. You should be able to build one for just under a 1000 dollars. Upgrading your current system would cost more than the PC is worth. Put your money on something new.

P.S If you're really attached to this computer you could always - Ditch Vista, Install XP Home OEM - 100 bucks (which would be more pratical for your current hardware configuration). Upgrade your video card to GEFORCE 7600GT for 100 dollars (Do note this card comes in both PCI E and AGP depending on what slot you have). So For 200 dollars you could have a pretty wicked fast PC that would handle most first person shooter games quite nicely without probably having to upgrade your current power supply. The card itself uses about 75Watts. So you should be able to get away with a 350Watt Power Supply.

I would say it all depends on whether you have a AGP/PCI-E slot.
If it does then you need a video card. What you have I believe is just an onboard and isnt even to be concidered for games like Crysis.
There isnt an issue with the processor and the ram is adequate as long an you kill off all of the garbage compaq has running in the tray and the background.

Yes that would be one way to kill the start up stuff... to be honest you don't need all this stuff starting up - only your antivirus/firewall/antispyware. You probably have a dozen things like your scanner, your printer and update checkers... frankly I would rather wait another 5 seconds for the printer to come up than have it start (and use resources) when I boot the machine.

Invest in a new graphics card... one that natively supports DX10 (your GS is dx9)

Ignore pbolduc's assertion that 2gb is not enough... it is. What you need is graphics with it's own ram... see the requirements for crysis

For Vegas 2 you need what you have but your video card must be shader 3.0

The sound card you have is a very old chipset for the machine spec.. you might need to do something about that as well.

Crysis will barely run well on a 8800GTX at 1280x1024 with high quality effects (my system has Athlon 64 x2 4400, 2GB). A 7800GT was totally underpowered for it so picture how a 7100 is...
I highly doubt that the power supply can handle the requirements of a high-end video card (you need one that can deliver at least 500W)

Good point ceebee... compaq however do use good psu's, so if spawn posts the details on the side of the psu, we can see how close it is to what he needs.

I forgot to mention my power supply is 585w because I change my case to a (Cool Master) and Power supply (HEC HP585DR 585w Orion) and HD 500gb.

On Vista Base Score Vegas 2 require 5.0 mininum, Recomemded 5.5

My Base Score Rating is 3.0 Because of my Video Card here's my list.

    Processor: 4.2
    Memory (Ram): 5.6
    Graphics: 3.7
    Gaming Graphics: 3.0
    Primary Hard Disk 5.6

So is it possible to upgrade my Processor CPU.....

A lot of the newer games are linear in my opinion - ie, if you don't use the given weapon and do the predetermined actions you fail.

If you want to try out shooters, get a copy of Line of Sight - Vietnam.

You can play with the help of your 'spotter', without, with basic weapons, with something with more range, etc.

It is an older game but has good graphics and lots of AI.

Absolutely - BUT you may be restricted by the Bios. Make sure you get an AM2 processor as described here

Crysis is awesome too, there are several ways of going through levels and the graphics are stunning.

My question is are you looking for solo play or multi-player vs mode? If you're looking for vs games I suggest Battlefield 2142, Wolfenstein ET (free and a bit old), or possibly counterstrike. These would run fine and fast on almost anyone's PC these days. Plus they have good graphics and a lot of people in their servers. Wolfenstein won't have the best graphics but it's more of a fun silly frag fest than realistic warfare.
