[RESOLVED] ATI Radion Sapphire X1550 driver
I have an ATI Radion Sapphire X1550 AGP graphics card.
I recently incurred an issue with the driver for this card.
Upon booting up the PC (Windows XP SP2), I get a warning message stating that the graphics driver is not installed.
I go to the System Tray & re-install/update driver. The driver then re-installs & windows XP is fine for the session. However, if I turn off & re-start / reboot, the driver is lost again, and I have toi repeat the above.
I've tried re-installing the driver from the supplied CD & have tried the updated driver set from Sapphire. I still get the same issue.
I also have Windows VISTA on another partition. Graphics driver works fine.
Windows XP (SP2)
AMD 2600
Asus A7n8x delux MB

Followed Tweaktown's guidelines through uninstall & registry edits to re-install of software.
When PC re-boots, same issue occurs.
Again, if I Uninstall drivers in Device manager, and then scan for devices. software re-installs & I am able to amend settings in ATI Catalist. No further problem for the session. If however I re-boot PC, problem re-occurs.

Have you installed the chipset drivers first?

Yes. This install took place without problem.

OK, let me be a bit more explicit... did you download the latest chipset driver and install it after you cleaned out the old ATI driver but before you put the new ATI driver in?
Have you tried that video card in another machine?

Yes. To be sure, I have repeated as instructed. Removed the ATI directories & amended registry entries using regcleaner as instructed. Re-installed the NVIDIA drivers & re-installed the latest ATI Catallist software, as downloaded from the provided links. All done with Norton anti-virus turned off.
Upon last re-boot error re-occurs.
I haven't tested on another machine, as card works from my Vista partition.
Would a repair install work?

This certainly is starting to look more like a possible Windows problem than one with the driver, but I would always run a thorough disk check to make sure there are no bad sectors, etc. followed by System File Checker before doing a repair installation.

Carried out a WinXP repair install. This appears to have worked. Thanks to all involved.
