Greetings Blink. Could you elaborate a little? Did you get to safe Mode?
Last thing I remember, running for the door,
I had to find the passage back to the place
I was before.

I have seen similar symptoms caused by a malware (virus and/or spyware) infected machine. I usually try and do two things in that case. Run a repair install of Windows and hope it (at least temporarily) fixes the boot/login files necessary to get in or pull the hard drive and connect it to a known good PC and scan the hell out of it and attempt to back up data. I invested in a IDE/SATA to USB adaptor a while back and it has been a wonderful tool.

I have seen where booting to the recovery consul using the xp cd and then doing a chkdsk /r repairs this sort of thing. It is not allways successfull but its simple enuff that trying it takes very little time.

If the problem is due to file corruption chkdsk /f run in recovery console can often fix the problem.
It really depends on the cause of the behaviour.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
