It's a canon, but I've tried several different manufacturers and it's the same thing. Printing direct over a network, but doesn't matter how it's setup, Word still remembers the last printed settings.

We've set the printer up to print B&W by default, but the user must have the ability to change this via the printer driver as colour needs to be printed occasionally.

Word simply remembers the last settings used and I want to stop Word doing this if it's possible. I don't think it is.

    Let me understand
The user open a word documents -> go to prin settings -> change the settings -> change them -> prints -> open another file (without closing MS word) -> the new file is printer with the settings used in the previous file...
    Am i Correct?

Almost. It's easier to describe if you imagine the user has only one printer, set as default to print black and white.

    One file only.
Load file - edit - print - change to color - OK, (prints) - makes a few more changes - print - OK, (prints). The 2nd time the user prints retains the color settings, it does not use the printer defaults.

Happens if another file is opened, the 2nd file uses the last print settings, (color).

Happens on ALL printers I've tried.

Ok - I also seen this - it never bothered me - but we are here to help each other
I Googled frantically and found this post by "=?Utf-8?B?UlM=?= " in
    http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-878322.php

it seems to be a VB code that has to be "injected" into word

please tell me if it is helpfull

    cheers,

I came across this same problem with Word XP.
I installed new computers and suddenly this issue arose from nowhere!
When you change the print settings from the Word print dialog the changed settings remain even after closing Word. This only occurs in Word and not in other Office applications.

The problem comes from Outlook, something most people have open all day. When you use Word as your e-mail editor than Winword.exe is never closed even when you think it is! When I turned this off the problem went away immediately.

I hope this helps some of the people with similar problems.
