dv300 sound card and soundmax
I am having trouble with the soundcard on my compaq dv300. I believe I accidently uninstalled the drivers for the sound card. I am trying to install soundmax cadenza and I am getting the error message "driver not found, reboot the system and run setup again". I tried rebooting and running setup with no luck. I would appreciate the help.

What is the actual model of the laptop? A dv300 doesn't exist according to compaq! Check the bottom of the laptop for full product and part number details.

ok... boot to safe mode, and uninstall the software from add/remove programs then go into device manager and remove AC97 sound if it's there... now reboot to normal mode. Does the new hardware wizard launch? If not, is the sound turned off in the bios/setup? (F10 when you see the Compaq logo and a flashing line on the right).

OK, go into safe mode and uninstall the drivers and software as before, then restart and go straight into bios and turn off the ac97 sound. Now reboot to normal mode. Does the hardware wizard still launch?
If not, shut down and turn ac97 sound back on. Boot to normal mode and check for the hardware wizard. When it launches, do not give a location for the drivers, but ask windows to look for itself and include the internet in the search.
You didn't actually say whether the hardware wizard launches or not - this is important to know.

When the wizard launches, exactly what do you do and what happens next?
