Windows update
I keep getting a message to install this update...Initializing installation... done!
Installing Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181) (update 1 of 1)... which I have tried to do. It shows when I check with Microsoft that I have installed it a number of times. However, I keep getting the message to install it.
I am running windows XP home edition
My virus check is up to date and I show no viruses
All of my software is legal.
I have installed it manually and it says that it was successful.
I have gone to Microsoft to check to see if it is installed and it is.
When I check updates, I don't see it. It just keeps coming back. I Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried uninstalling the patch then installing it? I've had corrupted updates keep trying to update on a few clients machines and it wouldn't succeed unless i uninstalled it first.
One Script to rule them all.
One Script to find them.
One Script to bring them all,
and clean up after itself.

At first, I couldn't find it when I went to uninstall it. Then I went to the Microsoft site again and put in the name of the file and found that there were problems with it. I followed the instructions and downloaded the file again and saved it on my computer. It then came up with an option to fix it, which I did. That didn't work. So, I went back to the file and clicked to install it. Then it gave me an option to remove it which I did. Next, I installed it again and rebooted the computer. No more icon in the taskbar or when I choose to shut down. So, it would appear that it is fixed. Thanks for the push in the right direction, because I couldn't figure it out. SL.

Good to hear that you got it fixed.
And nice of you to describe just how you actually solved the issue also.
