Exclamation HP laptop help! Electical problem!

I have an HP-Compaq presario C500 laptop and it has an electrical problem in which it Boots only with a working battery in, that has a charge. Its like it doesnt receive enough electricity to do anything. Is there any way to fix it? The HP tech support wants me to send it in for $289 for a Motherboard replacement. It doesnt seem to have a motherboard problem. The DC input peice is damaged, but ive managed to re-solder the broken connection. If i replace the DC input will it work again? ?

    Welcome to WinDrivers, Jmasta.

If the power adapter is working correctly, then it appears that there is indeed further damage to the motherboard. I guess it's possible that the DC socket is broken internally, and replacing it may be the only way to be certain. But I suspect it's more likely some damage has been done to the board. Motherboards are multi-layer, with internal tracks, one track can be cracked internally, invisibly on the surface layer, or a fusible link on the board may have blown due to the original faulty connection.

HP Bios on some machines, have a menu page which detects the power adaptor and it's state. If you plug in the power adaptor and go into bios, is the power adaptor detected and does it show it's working ok?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
