    Beeps but no other sound

After a fierce battle with dell placing a new motherboard and frying one of my new memory since he forgot to detact the battery before opening my dell inspiron 700m. I was able to get the computer up and running again but the only problem now is I dont have sound. I have went to dell to download the Sigmatel C-Major audio drivers but still no use. I have restore the computer to the original out of the box and unistall the driver, then plug and play but still it is unable to start up with a sigmatel code 10.

The computer beeps so I know there is sound through the audio speaker but I dont see a speaker icon on the task bar anymore and when i go to volume control its states I have no mixer audio. Any help would be appreiciated

    Windows XP business edition

    Welcome to Windrivers chibithal

Code 10 is a lack of resources, the wrong driver or lack of power or a missing service

Have you checked in the laptop bios to ensure that the sound is enabled?

What's the service tag for the laptop?

Bios shows that sound is enabled and working. The original DOS beeping sounds is there too. Service tag F5TCH71. I downloaded all the drivers from the dell website for the audio to the 700m but it still doesnt work.

Did you install all of the drivers there? Specifically the chipset ones?

Yes please load the chipset drivers and its worth noting there are several bios updates.

If the motherboard has just been replaced, it is under warranty? If so, I would back up the hard drive and use the restore disks. If the restore can't make the sound work, you will have proved the new motherboard has a problem. This would be the quickest way to discover if this is a windows problem or a hardware problem.
