Does the surge protecter have a light on to say the surge protection is working? Many don't, they just have a power light. If the surge protection indicator is out, that might be the problem. If it doesn't have a light, you should get one that does.

No It still is not resolved. I still get the same error message.

I removed two 512mb sticks.
They are ProMos Technologies ddr2-667mhz, part# PC2-5300U-555-12-D0.
I replaced with four 1gb sticks.
They are PNY ddr2, part#PC2-5300 667mhz Optima Dual Channel

And when you put the two old sticks back in, does the message go away? (after two reboots)

I may be getting somewhere now. I put the two original 512mg sticks in first bank-no error message. I removed & replaced with two of the 1gb sticks in the first bank-no error message.

If I put the two remaining 1 gig sticks in the second bank, I get the error message again. I can see no difference in speed going from 1 gig to 2 gig to 4 gig. So my thoughts are either the second bank has a problem or the computer is not using the extra memory. Bios, second bank bad or what???

Does it matter which of the 1G sticks are in which location? ie Do the 1G sticks that cause the error in the 2nd bank work OK on their own in the 1st bank?

Just as a cross-check, have you tried putting the 512M sticks in the 2nd bank & running 3GB?

If the error persists with any combination of DIMMs populating the second bank, it suggests a fault in the second bank, maybe a faulty memory slot.

I expect the board should be content to run in single channel mode - you could try running just 2 DIMMS in one channel, then swap channels. If the 2nd bank is faulty, you should get the errors in both cases, if a slot is faulty you should only get the errors in one channel.

(Unless AMD requires you to use a particular channel for single-channel mode. Someone more familiar with AMD than I am would need to comment on this.)

i would think you have one bad 1gig stick,use 1 stick at a time and you should get one that won`t boot replace this one and all should be good,as far as speed go you won`t see that much difference between 3 gigs and 4 gigs,luck

How about the 1Gs in the first bank, 512Ms in the 2nd?

Does the BIOS report 3GB?

If 3GB configurations work, and each individual slot works, then as OMG suggests, the board may need a BIOS update to function correctly with the full 4GB complement. As clauded says, with a 32bit OS, you will gain little using 4GB compared with 3GB, but 3 x 1GB DIMMs will not run as dual channel, you would have to get the 1GB + 512M combination to work.
