    Extremely Unpleased With Medical Professionals

About 8 months ago I had a slightly elevated blood pressure, 160/90, so I thought I would have this dealt with, well the doctor put me on some meds, can't remember the name, and it made me tired *** all you know what and after about three months I could hardly remember my own nmae let alone anything else so the doctor put me on a different one called Triamterene HCTZ which after 3 months or so I started to feel real week, dry mouthed, tired, losing weight and my eyesight has completely changed from far sight to near sighted and my $600 pair of glasses is useless now and I totally feel like crap. Upon reading what the side affects are these are only some of them. Oh and now my blood sugar is now from 290/333 after fasting which is another side affect and now I have been off this dam drug for 2 1/2 weeks and not feeling any better. I truly believe this drug to have triggered Diabetes and I believe that because prior to this I have checked my blood sugar and tested no more then 115 and not even fasting. Why in hell would they not try diet before they start these kinds of drugs on a person?

There are probably some good physicians out there but I believe most to be tipped by the pharmaceutical company's out there to feed us these drugs through kick back's.

    Just venting here.

Because to a doctor "why cure an ailment when you can just treat it?" I feel that 80% of what hospitals do is try to just keep you coming back even if it means giving you something that makes you have another condition due to the side effects. If they really cared about curing things they wouldn't give you anything that would have even the slightest side effect unless you yourself demanded that specific treatment while you yourself knowing what the side effects possibly were. Sorry tp hear your bad luck though. Hopefully things will work out for you and get resolved.

One of my customers today turned out to be a medical surgeon and she said that family physicians no nothing of preventative methods such as diet and such. All they know is to pump you full of pills. This doctor don't even know the side affects of the drugs he prescribed. I found out by looking it up on the internet. The customer said I can control high blood pressure and diabetes through a good diet and exercise but you have to be willing to sacrifice that slice of cake for broccoli and a walk around the block.

What you are describing isn't unusual. I have had cluster headaches for years.
""Cluster headache, nicknamed "suicide headache", is a neurological disease that involves, as its most prominent feature, an immense degree of pain. "Cluster" refers to the tendency of these headaches to occur periodically, with active periods interrupted by spontaneous remissions. The cause of the disease is currently unknown.""""

My previous GP refused to prescribe a certain blood pressure lowering medicine, which was very effective at short circuiting the whole cycle.
He said it was a heart medication with very little side effects.
I forced the issue and saw a neurologist who prescribed it right away and it was quite effective.
The GP wanted me to take a vascular-constrictor pill at 30 bucks a pop which you cannot take more then 7 a week without seriously increasing the chance of a heart attack.
The nature of cluster headaches is 3 to 5 headaches each lasting 45 to 90 minutes. You do the math.

The last doctor I had that I really trusted was one I was dating. She nearly dropped out of Med School a couple of times because she was so disgusted at the mercenary attitudes she kept seeing in the profession.

Here is proof of what happen to me: http://digestive-system.emedtv.com/t...rene-hctz.html If you read the third paragraph up from the bottom this is what happen to me. I have no history at all in my mothers family, fathers family or my brothers and sisters of having diabetes but after been on Triamterene-HCTZ for almost 4 months I'm now a diabetic.

First I started to become week, was real thirsty and strangest of all my eyesight changed from far sighted to near sighted and I couldn't wear my glasses anymore and everything beyond 15ft was blurred. I soon quit the drug and confronted the doctor with this and he said, "well you was borderline diabetic anyway" suggesting is wasn't the drug. Since I have quit the drug all the side affects have stopped except the diabetes. Also my eye sight is worse then it was and my glasses barely help any at there strongest point.

Fasting test are around 236 but I just checked after I ate and it was 443. I go to a specialist tomorrow and I will also take 4 classes of 2 1/2 hours for dieting. I'm not obese I only weigh 170lbs.

Almost sounds like a law suit to me but I don't really have enough money to fight it.

Well things have improved. I have been off the high blood pressure medication now for about 5 months or so and everything has almost returned to normal. My eyes now are the same as they was, far sighted and using the same old glasses, sugar levels are somewhat normal, no medication and get a high once in a while but my wife is higher then I, my blood pressure is great now that I have stopped drinking coffee which is what truly was the problem from the beginning almost a year ago. All the first doctor had to say was stop drinking so much coffee. Lesson learned on this one.

    Studies change over time - a recent one:edit: not so recent BUT decent;

http://www.ineedcoffee.com/03/bloodpressure/ draws NO direct link between coffee consumption and cardiovascular disease.

I was 135 pounds, 5'7" when first diagnosed with hbp (145/95) and treatment has me at 130/80 (now I am older and 160#).

Diet (more veggies, lots less fat) helped, but the Quinipril is what is doing the most, alongside the Lipitor.

Skinny outside doesn't mean skinny inside (the arteries).

I think the thing here what they are saying is moderation has no affect but if you are drinking a pot in the morning and a few espressos during the day this will have an effect on blood pressure. I was 160/90 consistently and now that I drink no coffee or espressos I'm at (just checked) 108/74 with no meds at all and no real diet to speak of. No coffee however. I don't really believe in studies it's what your body tells you and it tells me TO MUCH coffee was the culprit.

I have to admit that back when my HPB started, I drank LOTS of coffee. I now drink instant and many less cups and perhaps there IS a connection.

Given my age and the degree of weekness I have for forbidden things, it isn't likely I'll quit coffee completely.

    LoL

I drank a pot and then some for many years but it's no problem to quit with what I have been through with high blood pressure meds. I have heard many horror stories from people who take HBP meds now that I have been through it. I just wonder how many people are on this crap having health issues caused by HBP meds and don't even know it. I don't even think this doctor should be a doctor.
