OK, but if you wanted it to go to a good home

Before you jump off and buy another board, if you wait a couple of months, you can get a board which supports AM3 and DDR3. Right now, there are only AM2 boards which will take an AM3, but don't have DDR3 (except as part of the onboard video)... but Jan/Feb will see a new crop of boards.

Hmmmm let me think about it going to a good home i'll get back to you on that

I was thinking the same about waiting a while and getting DDR 3 memory I am in no rush so I think I should wait i think.

It's not like i am having any problems right now anyway I just wanted something a bit faster.

I have used Gigabyte Intel boards which provide both DDR2 and DDR3 - just waiting for the AMD version to come out....

I have 5 or 6 customers waiting for DDR3 to come down in price.

Not that I can see... the whole point of AM3 is to be able to use DDR3, so I guess until the AM3 is ready, you won't see any ddr3 boards for it.

Vakas I wouldn't bother with the above suggestions. You have a decent rig atm so unless you specifically want to do a platform change AM3 DDR3 boards will be out in early 2009.

AT Least i let him decide and didnt try to badger him into first buying a board that you later told him to ignore then suggesting another, then jumping to intel.

Don't worry about it guys the whole point of the forum is to ask questions and share your knowledge as some people know more than others.

I am not prepared to go for Intel I have been using AMD for years I have never used an intel for my personal use it's AMD all the way for me.

As for minimal performance between DDR 2 anf DDR 3 I read somewhere that It will make a huge difference. So what do you say to this?

Jury is still out... You can check out differences for the intel setup, but the AMD memory controller is on the cpu, not on the motherboard as is with intel...up until the i7 that is... Intel now incorporate the memory controller on die... so until someone can benchmark an AM3 on a board that can accept DDR2 or DDR3 I don't think you are going to get an answer.

I would never say that there isn't a significant difference because like you Vakas I use nothing but AMD for myself and my customers. There isn't any information yet. Because the memory controller for AMD is built into the cpu and they use Hyper Transport it's not easily compared to Intel. Also likely the same as DDR2 we may have to wait for chipsets to catch up to timmings.

I might not wait for the DDR3 support as I might be selling thw bits I have now as a friend of mine wants them.

So if I do I will be getting the GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-DS4H with the phenom 9950 and 8 gig of RAM

    How does that sound

If I get this memory I don't think I will be able to install chips in all the slots as they look thick and may take up space of 2 slots.
