CD Drive not recognized
Hi guys,
I have an HP in the shop, XP Home, has CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive. Drive is seen in Setup. But in OS, normal start or Safe Mode, device manager shows an exclamation point by the drive and indicates driver could not be loaded. Drive does not show up in Explorer. Same result with brand new replacement DVD burner. Drive is set to Cable Select, only drive on that IDE channel, but only 40-pin conductor cable, but that shouldn't prevent drive from showing up in OS.
Boots to XP setup (OS CD), avoiding boot to hard drive, just fine, reads disk, loads Windows Setup from CD.
Seems to me on another computer that needed cleanup anyway, this all got sorted out with an OS reload, but just wondering if I don't go that route (shotgun approach) if specifically you might have an idea of the actual problem.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Drivers may be corrupted - they should have been fixed up automatically BUT you can replace them;
cdrom.sys
imapi.sys
redbook.sys
storprop.dll
Expand from i386 I believe.
edit: otherwise, filters

Is there any roxio burning software loaded on that machine? Take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 and this also goes for after installing burning software.
Ferrit we must of posted about the same time that's what this link is about.

That's also what ' edit: otherwise, filters ' was about, since the poster is a tech I assumed he knew what filters were.

Thanks guys, I will save the link and your posts on my server for further reference. I've run into a whole host of software operating system related issues, so I've recommended to the customer that we wipe/reformat/reload OS to catch it all, but I'm grateful for your input on this specific problem as in the future I may not take such drastic action and go for the actual fix.
