Ie7 won't pull up any pages - timeouts

    This is an odd one.

Before I had this issue but closing out IE and then reopening it (once or twice) solved it - now it won't resolve at all.

Windows XP SP3 using Internet Explorer 7 (2GB of ram, fresh OS install from this past weekend including a FFR).

It tries to pull up a MS site (go.microsoft.com/(stuff)- even if I set the home page to something different. Even if I stop it and try to go to Google, it won't load, I'm just looking at a white screen with "waiting for google.com" in the lower left corner.

Just to be sure, I added IE to the Firewall exceptions list.

The odd part about this is that FireFox 3 works flawlessly. Outlook works fine, FTP programs and chat programs (ICQ) all work fine so it is not a PC issue. I even turned off AVG's web guard and it did not resolve the issue.

Suggestions? I'm up to date with updates - maybe it just doesn't like being second to FF?

Edit: Just got to MS's updates page - 27 security updates. Let's see if this resolves the issue or not.

Edit 2: The updates seemed to help the issue.
