Get Windows 7 now or later?

Should I get Windows 7 now or wait a few months or so prefrebly when the first SP is out?

I am using Vista 64 ultimate.

What do you guys think?

Hard to say with only this much info to go on.

If you're asking for opinions on Windows 7 quality and stability then I'd say no need to wait - if you want or need it then get it right away.

I've been using 7 since the beta and it's *very* stable, I would say that you don't have a need to wait till SP1 to come out to move to it. Personally, I won't go back to vista on my desktop. When 7 officially comes out, I'll be installing the newer version. I'm currently on Release candidate.

I have no tried any of the Beta version so I have had no experience with it as yet.

So is it a lot more stable than Vista?

what about Application compatabillity I heard it's alot better than Vista?

Basically will I be able to run all my current Vista software on Windows 7? I can't list everything but what are you experiences?

I know as regard to utilities antivrus etc you have to install new versions.

I've had very few problems with applications. Most of my issues have been in regards to 64 bits then windows 7. As for installing stuff, if it runs on Vista, it should run on 7

I am now on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit final.
It is compatible with every piece of software I own except Ghost 14.
I would like to take the time to say this is because Vista forced
software writers to write their software with much more security on the
users folders.
It "NEVER" was a vista compatibility problem. It was a poorly written software problem.

A perfect example lies right here with Quickbooks.

Yes windows 7 is perfectly stable but you had better check all of the
hardware you have to be sure they have drivers.
There is seriously no good reason to not use Windows 7 64 bit except if you have non main stream hardware.

I can't find any drivers for any of my logitech stuff maybe they have not released them yet?

other than that my tunerr and i have emailed the Manufacutrer Compro to see if theyy will be releasing drivers or software,

Also Canon have not yet released anything for thier printers and scanners.

Maybe they will near the release date...

Generally the vista drivers will work with win7 from what I've experienced.

Logitech diNivo Edge and an MX1100 mouse, both work flawlessly.

If you are that concerned about drivers, here is what I'll sometimes do when testing a new OS and have a little spare hardware - Installing it on second drive. Disconnect your main hard drive and any other drive you have stuff you care about on, then hook up a blank hard drive and install away.

If it works, Image it to your main drive or re-install it on the main drive once everything is connected. I would recommend though to leave data drives disconnected until windows is installed.

Logitech stuff in mainstream hardware so they will probably release new drivers.

So i've tested Microsoft Windows 7 out a bit. A lot of features that were just broken in Vista and never did work properly such as the search functionality, the explorer functionality, the shortcut menu mru lists, start menu glitches and the list goes on have all been corrected in Windows 7. If you are a home user i'd recommend buying it and using it. It will actually be a functional release. Plus it runs on a lot less hardware! However, if your wondering about implementing Windows 7 in a domain environment i'd recommend further testing in a test environment and maybe just holding off until after the first Service Pack release before deploying to a commercial network. It's never a good idea to do any big deployment without having a simulation environment first. But that just goes without saying.
