    Upgrading: XP to Win7

Any specific method I have to do to make XP upgrade to Win7, or do I just stick the disc in and say "Upgrade"?

You need to run the upgrade from within XP, and choose the Custom installation. Of course that overwrites all your files and programs, so be sure all your data is backed up before you upgrade.

MS suggests that you download and use the new version of Easy Transfer and an external hard drive, but it certainly isn't mandatory. After the upgrade you'll need to reinstall your software and transfer your data files and/or settings. Microsoft offers a tutorial for XP users that you can print here.

Straight from MS there is no direct migration path from windows XP to Windows 7, users will need to backup their data and perform a fresh install

Incredibly sound advise even without MS saying there is no upgrade path

Upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7

The Upgrade option is not available in Windows 7 Setup when installing Windows 7 on a computer running Windows XP. However, you can use Windows Easy Transfer to migrate files and settings from Windows XP to Windows 7 on the same computer. To do this, you must first copy files to a removable media, such as an external hard drive or UFD, or to a network share. Next, you will install Windows 7 and then migrate your files back from the removable media onto your computer. When you are finished, you must install your software programs again, but your files and settings will have been copied from Windows XP.
