When Task Manager comes up click on "new task" and type 'explorer.exe' (no quotes) and press enter. That should get you started again temporarilly.
Then, go here; http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
They have a wack of registry 'fixers' and other valuable stuff.
Scroll down to line 195 and click on the right hand side entry 'Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar' - it will ask what to do (open, save, cancel) - save it to the default location Desktop.
Leave that site, look at your desktop and click the entry and let it fix the problem.
Reboot.

"i have no keyboard or mouse

A paucity of information here - explain and describe, please.
eg, USB devices? How/why did you use the XP disk?
I will add that your original problem is malware related and may re-occur UNLESS you thoroughly clean your comp.
Avast, Malwarebytes, Spybot etc.

Hi CCT
Thank you for your help
i was going to use what you said in your reply about opening task manager
clicking on new task , type in explorer.exe ect:
but turning on the laptop it came to desktop and where as before i could use
the keyboard & mouse this time i could not.
so i restarted the lapy with xp disc in it, went to recovery and typed in chkdsk /p
and then rebooted. it came to desktop with all icons , and start menu but no use of the keyboard or mouse i have got malwarebytes but cant run it
cause of key/mouse there is no USB devices what else can i do
Once again CCT many many thanks

Sorry if you could not make any sense of my earlier post
i will try to make them a bit easier to understand
This is my uncles laptop ,but if it was mine i would do a fresh install
as this machine is more than likely infected.
i would have a go at cleaning it, if i can get the keyboard & mouse working
Thanks Theone

What SP is the disk you are using?
If SP2 or later, I would suggest a Repair Install - you will not lose any data BUT may lose some programme capability (add-ons, not XP).
You will also have to add any updates (SP3 if you only have a SP2 disk, and any recent security items.
THEN, get some AV and use it.
