Change icon of same extension, And open link with different browser

    Hello folx :O)

    I wonder if there's a way to :

    1. Change an icon of a file with SAME extension ? I have UVNC that controls 2 different computers and I want different icon to each computer.
    2. I want to open a specific shortcut for a site on my desktop with firefox, Although my default browser is IE8. Can it be done ?

    Thank you !

In XP you can choose which icon a specific file type (extension) will use.

In Windows Explorer click Tools, Folder Options, File Types and then click on the extension, click Advanced, click Change Icon.

    For the shortcut; http://blog.scoopz.com/2008/02/25/cr...fault-browser/

    Hey CCT,

"I wanted different icon to each computer" Which means that the both shortcuts have same extension.....

    Thanks

I have NO idea what that means.

An icon can be assigned to a file type on a comoputer so that, even if you open/save the file from another computer, the one opening/saving it will use its' own icon.

An XP shortcut can have any icon you want - just right click the shortcut and change it.

Think that you have 2 word documents on your desktop and you want to change the icon for just ONE of them......
    Hope I explained myself better

I bet it can be done, But i'm afraid it needs some program running and monitoring this change in the background....And I preffer a stable computer more than my "needs"...

I think if you put a shortcut on the Desktop to the specific file then YOU could create a different icon for the shortcut(s).

Why do the files need to be on the Desktop?

    CCT you are a boy-genius !!! It works !!!
Actually I need them in the quickstart bar, Because I access these computers a lot. One is for my guest room media server, And the other is for my bedroom media server.
Now what's left is the internet link thing I mentioned, Because I can only use LOGMEIN in firefox and not IE8. (I can use it in IE8, But it's in java and works quite slow), So I want that "special" link to the logmein site to be open in firefox while other internet links to be open with IE8

I think all you can do from within Windows is relabel the shortcut to the file; not change the icon associated with the file. And I think any desktop Internet shortcut will always open with the default browser.

Sorry, to less than helpful Hip, but I can still offer you my best wishes for the holiday season. Even if I am late for both Hanukkah and Christmas.

I use logmein all the time and it seems to run about the same with either IE8 or firefox.

I haven't manged to run logmein on IE8 in normal mode because the activex window of logmein won't popup. It only works in java mode under IE8 for me

Have you blocked active x or is it set to prompt?

It's set ok. I emailed back and forth the LOGMEIN support for weeks, And they don't have a solution for it.
No problems with IE7 or IE6
